WELCOME TO RHUBARB AND CUSTARD THEATRE COMPANY

ABOUT US
OUR MISSION
Our company aims to convey delight to our audiences through lively performances that celebrate the creativity and vibrancy of childhood, through the adaptation of traditional children’s literature. This prompted the company to adopt the name of ‘The Rhubarb and Custard Theatre Company’ as the confectionary connotes childhood custom as well as sensory stimulation in terms of colour and the contrasting sweet and sour taste.
As a company we all have experience working with children in many different environments. We all took part in the ‘Liverpool’s Big History Festival 2017’ as part of our Applied Theatre project at university. The focus of the project was to attract children into St George’s Quarter and encourage them to explore the heritage of the area. This prompted us to create performances for children, that would entertain whilst teaching them about the history of the Quarter through puppet shows, sensory rooms and live music.
Equally, a number of us have had past involvement working with children and young adults during their time in education. We have worked with disadvantaged children with poor or little education in orphanages and schools around Peru, Poland and the UK. From these experiences we have learnt alternative ways of communicating with different children swiftly in an effective manner.
